Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround

$0.00
Sold

A decorative arts and crafts fireplace surround salvaged from a home in the midwest. Although it could be installed around a firebox again, we believe it would make a beautiful decorative piece installed into the backsplash behind a kitchen cooktop.

Originally installed around a coal-burning fireplace, this piece of history once consisted of three parts. The surround, a grate, and a removable door, known as a “summer door”. When the fireplace was not in use, the door was mounted onto the frame, keeping warm air from escaping in the winter, or entering during the summer.

  • Found in Nebraska, from the late 19th century

  • Cast iron with ornate floral motif around the frame

  • The back of the frame bears the “W.L. Sharp and Son 1895” copyright and is embossed with “No. 907”

  • Measures approximately 30.5" W x 30.25" H x 2.5" D overall

  • The opening is approximately 24.25" W x 18.75" H x 1" D
