French Buffet with Diamond Pattern Doors
Antique solid wood buffet cabinet featuring a stunning hand-carved lozenge (diamond) and floral motif across the drawer and cabinet faces. The buffet’s planked molded edged top rests atop two drawers over a two-door cabinet which encloses a shelf inside for ample storage. We are enamored with the buffet’s dark stain that has worn over time resulting in a striking ombré pattern that cannot be reproduced. This buffet is the ideal size to use as a sideboard in a dining room, a statement piece in the foyer or as a charming tv console.
Found in France, circa 1880
Constructed from solid wood utilizing mortise and tenon and pegged joinery techniques
Original ornate brass hardware
Carved detailing around the left panel does not match that of the right (so interesting!)
Typical separation of planks, minor cracks and light staining throughout, consistent with age and use
No structural damage
A small hole in the back of the buffet was patched with a portion of a box that reads “Lafon” with stamps of medals from both the 1883 International Colonial and Export Exhibition in Amsterdam and the 1880 Exposition-Nationale in Bruxelles
Overall wear is consistent with age
Measures approximately 61” L x 19 1/2” W x 43 3/4” H
Available for pick up, local delivery, and nationwide shipping.
