Bespoke Antique Italian Bamboo Hat Rack
A very rare and beautiful handmade hat rack, found at the Paris Flea Market. Handmade of painted, sculptured bamboo, the rack was custom-made for a luxury hat shop in 1920s Italy. Its freestanding design features a gracefully arched back, showcasing elegant artistry and craftsmanship.
Each piece of the rack was meticulously sculpted to embody a specific shape, resulting in a glamorous Art Deco aesthetic. Round hoop hooks extend at intervals, delicately cradling hats while enhancing the rectilinear structure of the frame. Truly a work of art, this hat rack embodies the elegance and sophistication of its era.
Handmade in Italy, circa 1920
Made from (painted) bamboo, reeding, and willow
The rack holds 22 hats
The rack is lightweight and seems to be fragile, however, it is strong and sturdy; we put a dozen heavy men’s cowboy hats on it … and it didn’t flex!
It is freestanding in our display, to showcase its slightly concave shape but does sit more straight when placed against a wall
There are modern screws and nails in areas with rusty spots, splits, holes, and rot
The creamy white paint has faded and peeled off in many areas
Multiple minor areas of damage and repairs from years of use in a retail store. One small “dash” piece of rattan is missing.
No structural damage
Approximately 8’ L x 73.5” H x 13.5” D
Available for pick up, local delivery, and nationwide shipping.
