A Swedish late Gustavian two-part painted secretaire from the early 19th century, with a bonnet top, slant front desk, and chest of drawers.

Handcrafted in Sweden during the early years of the 19th century, this tall painted secretaire features a bonnet-shaped cornice sitting above two doors opening to reveal 2 inner shelves and a spoon rack. The interior has been painted with a new and durable creamy tone paint (as found). The central section presents a slant front desk concealing 8 drawers, 3 cubbies, and one lockable compartment perfect for staying organized! The lower dresser consists of three drawers with brass pulls and the secretary is raised on bracket feet.

Boasting a nicely worn appearance with a soft hand-painted floral motif on the cabinet doors, a framed pattern with contrasting corner squares on the slant top and drawer fronts, and a very faded decorative leaf pattern painted throughout. The old paint has been dry scraped and well preserved, typical of the Scandinavian taste and culture.

This painted Gustavian secretaire charms us with its nice proportions and distressed finish, making it a focal point in any living room, bedroom, or office.
