Louis XV Style Giltwood Firescreen
Typically used during warmer months, and times in which a fireplace went unused, this lovely Louis XV style decorative screen would have been used to cover the opening of a fireplace to improve the appearance of a room.
Crafted from solid wood utilizing mortise and tenon construction, this lovely giltwood firescreen, with its rich emerald green upholstery screen, features a double-sided decorative scroll and floral motif with highlights of claret paint around the curved edges and detailed carvings. Also known as a cheval screen (a fabric screen having two feet on each side), the frame rests atop a trestle base with cabriole legs and whorl feet.
Found in France, 19th century
Solid wood construction with original cloth panel
Near perfect condition with slight age separations
Overall wear consistent with age and use
Approximately 21” W x 2” D (15” D at bottom including feet) x 39 7/8” H
