Beautiful antique handmade salt glazed stoneware canning jar with subtle shades of ginger and marigold. Use as a vase filled with fresh or dried florals, or simply rest upon your mantel or bookshelf to add vintage character to your modern home.

The glossy, translucent, and slightly orange-peel-like texture of the stoneware was formed by throwing common salt into the kiln during the higher temperature part of the firing process. The earliest known production of salt-glazed stoneware was in the Rhineland of Germany around 1400 and the process continued through the latter half of the 20th Century when environmental clean air restrictions led to the demise of widespread use of salt glazing.
