Salvaged 19th Century Hungarian Zinc Roof Fragment, Large
The use of finials as decorative elements atop rooftops dates to Asian cultures as long ago as 700 A.D. Capturing dramatic elegance, while retaining its functional purpose of covering a gap in a roofline, zinc finials can be seen gracing the tops of buildings and homes across Europe. Smitten with its whimsical form, we now think this beautiful architectural fragment is one-of-a-kind sculptural element to be displayed either inside the home or out.
Found in Hungary, 19th century
Finial rests atop a (detached) custom stand constructed of wood salvaged from a local McKinney historic building
Wear consistent with age, removal from roof, and exposure to the elements over time
Overall dimensions approximately 18 3/4” W diameter at its widest point x 24” H (25 1/2” H including base)
Wooden base measures 11” W diameter x 1 1/2” H
