Willy Guhl was a furniture designer who was one of the first industrial designers in Switzerland. Originally trained as a carpenter, he later studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, before becoming a teacher there himself. Commissioned by the Swiss company Eternit in 1951, Ghul created a line of sturdy, yet attractive planters, which were made using composite, and resulted in several elegant styles that are still coveted today.
